Well, I fell behind. I was supposed to be at 50k by Monday, but that didn't happen. Then life stepped in. I'll still be at 50k by next Monday, but I wanted to be at 70k by then. Oh well, it's not the end of the world.
I'm so close, though, I can almost taste it! Guh!
Things are moving along. The story has changed a few times; mostly the ending shifting around, the genre going from kind of a sci-fi action to a romance, and a few other small things. But otherwise, the main story itself has stayed the same, of which I'm proud. I'm not so proud of Elijah's hormones causing him to behave in little ways that makes Elizabeth uncomfortable. Oh well, a slice of realism, I suppose.
So, for the random quote of the day, let's see a bit of those hormones in action:
“They thought I bewitched you?”
Elijah nodded.
“Odd, isn’t it? Considering I, seduced you.” He traced his finger along Elizabeth’s bottom lip, causing her to tremble again, for entirely different reasons.
On that note, I hope everyone had a very happy Turkey day. I'll see ya'll later, hopefully with a few thousand more words under my belt. Laters!

Almost...there... At this rate, I'll be done by Monday evening. So let's do a big ass happy dance for that! Tomorrow's goal: 45000.

Day off
I'm so close to the NaNo goal, less than 10k away, and here I am taking a break. Why, do you ask? Well, it's simple: my brain is fried at the moment. I'm taking today off to have some Miki time, sans Elizabeth and Elijah. I mean, they're always in my head, even last night when my husband and I were at dinner I was trying to figure out how to make the story last a little longer. Originally, their fleeing from Providence was going to be the climax of the story. But that just happened, and I like my stories to flow naturally, so I wasn't about to add in a whole bunch of crap that'd just have big, red x's through it later. So, the question became what could the new climax be, and how to write it so it doesn't seem like I have two climaxes? Well, I think I figured it out. We'll know by the end of the month.

40051!!!
So, because I caught up (missed a day writing) and got ahead (reached tomorrow's goal), I'm going to take tomorrow off. I think I deserve that, writing almost 9k in one day. Tomorrow will be spent speed reading New Moon before going to the midnight showing. *sigh* Only 411 pages to go. Hey, if I can write 9k in one day, I can sure as hell read 411 pages in one day. Especially since I read New Moon in one day last time. Well, love to all, I'm dragging my tired ass to bed.

30036!
Whoot! Getting there, one 2500 word hurtle at a time.
Had our local write-in today. It was fun, just not productive. hehe We figured out that a 50k word novel is only about 200 pages. Way too short. If I keep up with my 2500 words a day, I'll have 70k by the 30th. So that's 280 pages. Not bad, but still not in the range I'd like to be in. I'd like to be between 350 and 500 pages, which is 87500 to 125000 words. Writing 2500 a day, I'll finish between December 5 and December 20. If my math is right. Which, given the time of night and how tired I am, it might not be.
As for my story, we're getting into the real meat and potatoes of it. Elizabeth is starting to learn how the Church really came to be, and what all Jameson did to come to power, and she doesn't like what she finds out. My own little twist on the tree of knowledge. But, isn't it always better to know, so you can make a well informed decision? I realized today I'm posing all these philisophical questions through this story, kind of neat.

27581!
*does a jig* I can't believe how quickly this is coming together. I can't wait to finish, to start editing. I don't know if it's going to be much longer than 50k, but I plan to write until November 30th. That will put my total at almost 70k. The plan is then to edit through December, and hopefully have a manuscript to send out by January. Here's hoping.

25360!!!
And I have reached my halfway mark, before I'm halfway through my time. Yay!
We're halfway through, and I've set all the wheels in motion for the event that causes the climax of our story. It will take a while for them all to spin together, but the event that just happened was the final piece. Well...maybe not...I guess the neighbor will be the final piece, huh? Anywho, we're getting there.

More names and places
Today we'll start with the places:
Sanctity: Small settlement Elijah visits to interview parents. 10 couples granted.
Deference: Small settlement Elijah visits to interview parents. 6 couples granted. North of Providence (night's journey).
Reverence: Small settlement Elijah visits to interview parents. 8 couples granted.
Names:
Thomas: A twin
Isaac: He will laugh
Jared: Decendent
Jeremiah: God will uplift
Reuben: Behold, a son
One of these days I'll have to go through and update a character list with who all these people are, why they're important, what not. And maybe change a few names around. Isaac meaning what it does makes me question that name for the head of Council. *sigh*

20590
So I ended up 590 words above my goal for today, which means I only have to write 1990 words tomorrow. I'm debating if I want to continue the next chapter with Elijah's POV, maybe of the Nursery or some interviews, or not. Actually, it'll be Elijah's POV, we need to see what he was doing in the year after he and Elizabeth seperate, but I'm not sure where I want to pick up from. And I have to make it clear it doesn't pick up right where I left off with Elizabeth's POV, but where I left off with his. Oy.

15523!
So, I kicked my goal of 15000 words for today. Yay for me. And for the first time, I'm above where the little NaNo graph says I should be. Another yay. So, to mark this great moment in time (at least my time), I'm going to post a little snibbit of our tale:
“Don’t change your teaching methods. I’ll keep the Council and the Church away from you, but those children need someone like you. They need someone to try to force them to think and not just go along with what’s put in front of them. Every child I saw in each of those twenty other settlements all looked the same. They had the same blank eyes, the same blank faces, and the same dull voices when they spoke. There was not one original thought in one of their heads. But these children, your children, they’re different, and that cannot be lost.”
Elizabeth looked up at Elijah in amazement. She’d never seen anyone so passionate about something in her life. It was as though a fire had been lit within him, burning in his eyes and through his skin where he touched her. She had the momentary thought that they would both go up in flames and perish, but she pushed it aside, craving the warmth she hadn’t realized she’d been lacking.

Names and places
Figured I'd better start a list of character names and meanings, just so I don't end up with five Annes. Might also include places, so I can keep those straight, too.
Elizabeth: God is my oath
Elijah: The Lord is my God
Mary: Sea of bitterness
Anne: Gracious, merciful
Sarah: Princess
Hannah: Grace
Rebecca: Snare
Abraham: Father of nations
Katherine: Pure
Andrew: Manly
Kenan: To take posession
Jameson: Son of James
Thomas: A twin
Seth: Appointed
I might make a list later of all the names I'm thinking of using and their meanings, to help me better choose character names.
The two towns I've named so far are:
Providence: The capitol and town where Elijah and Elizabeth currently live and work.
Constance: The small settlement out West where Elizabeth grew up.

12650!!!
Last night I actually reached (and exceeded)a goal. Pissed my husband off in the process, but I did it! *dances around* Today's goal is 15000. If I can stay awake long enough, I think I can do it.

Well, the goal for yesterday was 10000, and I missed that, but only just. The goal for the end of the day today is 12500. Just have some towels to fold, then it's off to writing for me.

As I've been telling everyone, I'm doing NaNoWriMo this year. For those of you who don't know, that stands for National Novel Writing Month. The goal is, starting November 1 and ending midnight November 30, all participants are to write a 50k word novel. That's right, an orignal work of fiction. Now, I've written that much fic, but usually I crap out with original stuff. my head is full of ideas that other people tell me are really interesting, but I just never get them down on paper. Seeing as I respond fairly well to pressure (at least as far as my writing and apparently weight loss are concerned), I hope this is the swift kick in the ass that I need. Hopefully.
To keep myself writing, and to keep my number count rising, I've set a goal for myself: I want to write at least 2500 words a day. If I stick to that, I'll have my 50k in 20 days. Today I was supposed to have 7500, and you can see how that turned out by the title of this little post. I'm hoping I can make that up tomorrow, as it isn't much.
Now, I'll be honest, probably at least 75% of what I'm writing is crap, and I'm being generous for the sake of my ego. But I'm hoping that it's crap that can be refined into something worth selling. Because, above all things, I'd love to be a published writer. I have a few poems published out there somewhere, but I don't count that. I want a novel out there with my name (or my pen name) on the cover. I have lofty dreams, I know. But if my stupid Lit 101 prof can get published, I sure as hell can.
So, now that I've wasted time that could have been spent on my novel (and bored everyone to tears in the process), I'm dragging my ass to bed tomorrow. I have 1924 words to write, a house to clean, and work to get to. Anyone have a maid and a few thousand bucks they want to give me till this thing is done?
